Everyone has experienced the dreadful feeling of being stuck at an airport during a layover and having nothing to do. The boredom is excruciating when your layover can potentially last for hours. So, do you just sit in a seat and waste away until you can board your flight? You could, or, you can do some things to keep yourself from being bored!
If you don’t mind getting on the floor, you can find some unoccupied space and do a few yoga poses. If that may be a little embarrassing for you, you can always walk around the airport. You can pass the time by looking around and you get a little cardio workout too. Just be mindful of the time and when you are boarding!
Read a Book
The good old fashion way to kill time is by reading a good book. If you are concerned with luggage space, get a cheap book that you won’t mind leaving at the airport when you are finished. That way, you can make room to bring back travel purchases and not be bored out of your mind during a layover.
Start a Conversation
If you feel comfortable talking to strangers, start a conversation with someone. You can do this either at your seat or take a trip to the bar. Look for a common interest to get the conversation going such as liking a sports shirt they are wearing or noticing the author of the book they’re reading. You never know, you might cheer up someone’s day!
Look at Airport “Shows”
Keeping up with modern demand, some airports now offer “shows”. They usually consist of local artists, you can see online at the airport’s site of what’s available while you are there. They are fun distractions and you may end up discovering something that you like!
Sometimes the best entertainment comes from watching people – whether by the gate, at a food spot, walking around, or anywhere else really. Are they having a juicy conversation? Any interesting fashion styles? How do they seem to be dealing with being stuck at an airport too? Just be mindful not to eavesdrop or stare too long.
If you have a particularly long layover, go sightseeing in the city. Some airports offer transportation or you might have to take a taxi if you have the funds. It will get you out of the stuffy airport and you can experience the local culture.
Do Crossword Puzzles and Word Searches
Word searches and puzzle books don’t take much space at all in your bag or luggage and they can pass a couple hours by while waiting for your flight. As a bonus, they can help boost your cognitive intellect.
My personal favourite.
Stay Entertained Even during a Layover
Airports are not the most fun place to spend your time at but that doesn’t mean you have to be bored during a layover. Pick your activities and have some fun! Unless you’re at Kuwait International airport, then you won’t have fun.
